The Palace has become a standard part of expat existence. The fact
that the Warsaw Curry Club meets here is an accolade in itself. The
Madras actually carries a fair degree of firepower while the Chicken
Tikka Butter Masala will melt in your mouth. Kingfisher lager and
prompt service round off what is a guaranteed blinding night out.

They've tinkered with a few details and smartened their image. With
an ambience that's far less stiff than their competitors, it at times
vaguely resembles a traditional British curry house. If you're not
sure, that's a good thing. The food scores points, and the butter
chicken is the best we've had in the city. Our number one take-away
destination, in fact.

Warsaw's Chinese community flocks here in droves. You may well wait
forever and a day for your food to arrive, but once it does you're in
for a treat. All the standard options are available, as well as more
peculiar choices like squid in chilli paste and stir-fried frogs
legs.

Dim lighting, piano music (live in the evening) and wooden beams lend
a sophisticated, yet welcoming air to this place. Indignant staff
threaten to shatter that welcoming air but fortunately the food
manages to leap to the rescue. The roasted duck served in apple
pancakes is divine and a there are a number of other equally good
dishes. Mains will set you back around 45zl.

The informal atmosphere (Greek music and chequered table cloths),
city centre location and low prices may seem inviting. Unfortunately
the food looks better on the menu than it tastes on the palate. The
belari meze (spicy pork) tasted no better than a bland goulash.

A fairy tale world of fluffy romance, candles, flower pots and simply
great food. Run by the same team that brought you Roma Restaurant,
guests can expect the same level of excellence and attention to
detail. From the hand written menu to the complimentary garlic bread
to the mouth watering green pepper steak, Bacio has all the
ingredients needed for a successful dinner date.

The kitschy decor of wind chimes and bamboo partitions is a little
tongue-in-cheek, but there's nothing wrong with the food. As the name
says, dumplings are the mainstay here, and the friendly prices will
leave you with change for the piggy bank.

We're happy to admit that we got it wrong about this place. Its fast
become The Next Big Thing in town, and aside from a healthy following
of stick thin girls, high flyers and expats it offers a bit of
everything: well stocked bar, good sounds, bright staff and polished
decor. The menu is too limited for a feast, but includes a range of
European standards, from tasty tomato soups to decent pasta.

Whether you're trying to impress a client, or attempting to seduce
your PA, this is a venue suitable for both. The opera music and
floral table cloths, twinned with courteous and knowledgeable
service, provide the backdrop for a pleasurable experience. Try the
Tuscan-style roasted duck. Tastes great with Nastro Azzuro lager.

Our hopes for a good meal were dashed by incompetent service, and
more pointedly, bad cooking. Heed our advice; give the duck a miss.
The minimalist surrounds are better if you plan to mince around with
blue coloured cocktails, as opposed to eat.

Having lost their franchise 'La Bod' have re-emerged as Bodeguita.
The only change is in the name. The staff still have a tendency to
treat you like a gimp, and the food is horrendously over-priced. The
15zl lunch menu is fair value, but the spices need to be much more
brash. The informal ambience and occasional live music make this a
fair stop off, but until things improve in the kitchen there's few
reasons to turn up here.

A favourite of those working in embassy-land, or so we're told. With
wooden beams, pastel colours and lots of jars full of pickled
'stuff', it has all the warmth of a well-stocked country kitchen. The
menu is solid, and the chef reliable. Give the duck in orange a try.

They might have a crap football team, but it's good to see the
dastardly German's are still capable of conjuring up fantastic food.
Expect to see piles of meat, gallons of foreign lagers, pots, pans
and dried flowers in this welcoming and rustic themed restaurant. The
white Munich sausage is described as a starter. Don't be fooled -
it'll take a week to eat. There's plenty other farmyard animals on
the menu as well and you can treat yourself to giant servings of
schnitzel, pork knuckles etc. Great.

Named after the fictional Czech soldier, Swejk, this is just the
place to come to eat meat, drink beer and listen to the staff bicker
amongst themselves - not unlike the Czech Republic then. The Budvar,
Becherovka and wooden interior add to the theme, although you'll have
to pay Warsaw prices for your sausages, shashlyks etc.

Hearty food and genuinely warm hospitality make this a fun venue. The
decor is enough to make you roll your eyes (fake fruit, trumpets and
a plastic bat hanging from the ceiling!) but you can't help but love
it. Leather sofas you can sink into give a home, sweet home vibe. Not
that our homes look like this.

Affordable selection of skewered meats and Bulgarian plonk. Can't

Full marks for presentation. The decor is as alternative as the
castle based location. If you're expecting animal heads nailed to
wooden boards you couldn't be more wrong - this is an artsy hangout
replete with abstract art and moody lighting. Shame the food lets the
whole operation down. The mushroom soup is as tasty as it gets, but
main courses like their chicken in honey or Russian pierogi aren't
worth the plate they're served on.
