In 1976, Gérard Rauzy proved a characterization of deterministic numbers: y is deterministic iff for any normal number x, x+y is also normal. During my lecture I will discuss the notion of a deterministic point in a topological dynamical system, especially, what is a deterministic real number, and say how deterministic numbers behave under arithmetic operations. I will conclude by a series of associated open problems.
