Amine Marrakchi is the laureate of the 2022 Barbara and Jaroslaw Zemanek Prize
Amine Marrakchi from Ecole Normale Supérieure, Lyon, is this year's winner of the international Barbara and Jaroslaw Zemanek prize for achievements in functional analysis, with particular emphasis on operator theory.
The Jury highlighted, in particular, the groundbreaking results of A. Marrakchi in the theory of operator algebras, ergodic theory and geometric group theory, and especially his contribution to the study of the bicentralizer problem in von Neumann type III algebras.
The prize was established by the IM PAN in 2018 with funds donated by prof. Zemanek and his wife.
The winner is selected annually by a seven-member international Jury. More information about the prize can be found on the web-page
