The NCN and Ministry of Education and Science grants go to research in Virgo gravitational waves
We are pleased to announce that the NCN has awarded a grant for the project "Gravitational wave research in the era of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA discoveries" under the OPUS 25 call.
The grant was awarded to a group of entities:
University of Warsaw,
Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences,
National Research Center for Nuclear Research,
University of Białystok,
Jagiellonian University.
Principal investigator: Prof. Tomasz Bulik (University of Warsaw)
Funding amount: PLN 4,417,010
Duration: 4 years
Project entitled "Virgo-PL: Polish participation in the Virgo gravitational wave observatory"
The Ministry of Education and Science, as part of the programme "Support for the participation of Polish research teams in international research infrastructure projects", awarded the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences a grant in the amount of PLN 1,282,163.75 to pay the membership fee of the Polgraw team in the Virgo gravitational wave project.
The funding obtained by the IM PAN is a continuation of the financing of the Polgraw team led by Prof. A. Królak. The Polgraw team is a member of the Virgo gravitational wave detection project (https://www.virgo-gw.eu/). The Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences is the leader of the Polish Consortium of the Virgo Project and was the leader of three NCN grants financing the Consortium's participation in the Virgo project.
