Prof. Jim Simons dies at age of 86
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Professor Jim Simons has passed away at the age of 86. He was a mathematician, investor, and philanthropist.
In mathematics, known for his research in the field of differential geometry, the co-discoverer of the Chern-Simons form, which has applications in knot theory and topological quantum field theory. Lecturer at Harvard and Stony Brook universities. Doctor honoris causa of several universities.
Founder of the Renaissance Technologies investment fund that successfully uses mathematical models and algorithms to analyze market anomalies.
A generous donor supporting the activities of universities, founder of several scientific institutes.
