Abstract

We recall how the Łojasiewicz inequalities were born and give a short overlook of their further career in mathematics. Special attention is given to the gradient inequality and its variants which turned out to be powerful tools in solving problems in partial differential equations, geometric analysis, calculus of variations, optimization and applied oriented problems where gradient flows and gradient-like algorithms are used.
