Rules of the Reading Room at IM PAN
- The Reading Room is open: Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Users of the Reading Room are asked to:
- Leave coats, bags, and personal items in the Library cloakroom and silence mobile phones,
- Sign the visitor log located in the borrowing area to the left of the entrance,
- Declare any personal books or journals brought into the Reading Room,
- Handle publications, catalogs, and electronic equipment carefully,
- Maintain silence in the Reading Room,
- Not remove publications from the Reading Room without explicit permission from the on-duty librarian,
- Search for and retrieve books from accessible shelves on your own,
- Not use ladders – access books on high shelves only with the help of authorized library staff,
- Return used materials to carts or containers for free access and return items received from the library's storage to the staff,
- Seek assistance from the on-duty librarian if you wish to access paper copies of journals, preprints, reprints, or historical books (requests for these materials made after 3:00 PM will be processed the next day),
- Not bring food or drinks into the Library. Smoking is prohibited in IM PAN Library.
- It is possible to reserve needed copies for up to two weeks (place a clearly signed note with the current date and the call numbers of the reserved books inside the books). After this period, the books will be returned to the storage.
- If you find any damage or destruction to a journal or book, please report it to the on-duty librarian.

Regulations for Borrowing Materials from IM PAN Library
- The lending area is open: Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
- IM PAN employees can borrow publications from the Library based on a signed hand-written receipt. Employees who terminate their employment must settle any obligations with the Library before leaving IM PAN.
- Individuals not employed at IM PAN, including students, may use the materials on-site in the reading room or borrow publications from the Library based on a request/receipt issued by their home institution/school, signed by an authorized person, with the institution's stamp and address.
- The Library confirms the return of a borrowed book by providing a signed part of the receipt.
- Borrowing periods:
- For individual readers – 90 days,
- For libraries (interlibrary loans) – 30 days.
Requests for extensions can be made by the reader with the librarian’s approval.
- If the return date is exceeded, the Library will send a written reminder to the reader. Note that books from our Library are often unique in the country and should be available to many readers.
- Borrowed books can be reserved. After receiving notification of the return of a reserved book, it can be picked up within a week. After this period, it will be lent to the next person in line.
- Damage, destruction, and loss:
- If a book is lost or damaged, the reader should report this fact and purchase a replacement copy of the same book, or if that is not possible, a book indicated by the Library Manager.
- If a book is damaged, the reader should restore it to a usable condition, with the costs of repairing and rebinding covered by the reader (or borrowing institution).
- The following items are not available for borrowing:
- Journals,
- Books from the reference collection,
- Publications published before 1945.
- Books from the new acquisitions display can be ordered by attaching a note with the call number, reader’s name, email, and the current date.
- Documents published in the Digital Repository of Scientific Institutes (RCIN) are not available to readers in their original printed form.
- Interlibrary loan regulations are in accordance with the Library Act of June 27, 1997, with subsequent amendments. Postal charges for interlibrary loans are borne by the sending institution.

Photocopying, Scanning, and File Sending Costs
- the cost of photocopying or scanning from a paper publication in the collection is:
- Photocopying or scanning on-site, paid in cash without an invoice:
1 page - 0.20 PLN
- Photocopying or scanning on-site, invoice payable in cash or by bank transfer:
1 page 0.21 PLN + VAT, i.e., 0.26 PLN gross
- Scanning service by the Library with email delivery to the requestor’s address, payable by bank transfer after invoice issuance: 5 PLN net + VAT, i.e., 6.15 PLN gross (regardless of the number of pages in the file, with 1 publication = 1 file)
- the cost of sending a pdf file of a single article from the library’s electronic collections by email is:
- 1 electronic article – 5 PLN net + VAT, i.e., 6.15 PLN gross
The Library does not make copies of entire monographs and journal volumes, only selected fragments or individual articles/chapters.
- "Article on Request" Service: Upon written request from an IM PAN researcher or a retired IM PAN researcher, the library can purchase and provide free access to an electronic version of an article in a non-subscribed journal. the purchase applies to an article published in a journal indexed in the MathSciNet database.
