From September 8 to 15, 2009, the Thirty-Eighth National Scientific and Training Conference on Applications of Mathematics took place in Zakopane-Kościelisko at the Siwarna Holiday House.
The Conference Organizing Committee was established by the Mathematics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Center for Applications of Mathematics of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Society of Actuaries.
The aim of the conference is to present mathematical methods applicable in various fields of the national economy, particularly in industry, insurance, finance, banking, railways, transportation, etc.
Conference participants have the opportunity to present their constructed mathematical models during the appropriate thematic sessions.
From September 8 to 15, 2009, the Thirty-Eighth National Scientific and Training Conference on Applications of Mathematics will be held in Zakopane-Kościelisko at the Siwarna Holiday House.
The Mathematics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Center for Applications of Mathematics of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Society of Actuaries, has appointed the Organizing Committee and the Program Committee of the Conference.
The aim of the conference is to present mathematical methods applicable in various fields of the national economy, particularly in industry, insurance, finance, banking, railways, transportation, etc.
Conference participants have the opportunity to present their constructed mathematical models during the appropriate thematic sessions.
The program includes sessions.
The sessions will feature presentations by invited speakers, including international ones, including special overview-introduction lectures, as well as 15-20 minute reports by participants.
In case of a large number of submitted reports, the Organizing Committee may suggest that some authors present their results in a poster session. Reports submitted or qualified for the poster session will have a permanent display in one of the rooms, after a 5-minute presentation in a special session. The date and time of the poster session will be included in the conference program.
The poster should be prepared in A2 format in portrait orientation (one or two sheets measuring 420×594 mm), with text in a font size of at least 20 pt. The file (PDF, TeX, or Corel) should be sent to the organizers by July 31, 2009, who will provide the printing of the posters. Regardless of the session, participants will be able to arrange meetings with the authors of the displayed works throughout the conference.
During the session Who Knows How to Solve This?, participants will have the opportunity to present problems they are having difficulty solving.
Starting from the XXX Conference, an annual prize for young mathematicians (up to 35 years old) for the best paper presented at the conference has been funded. Those wishing to participate in the competition for the prize are asked to submit, in addition to the abstract, a more extensive version of their work.
We kindly inform that authors of outstanding papers and scientific reports will be invited to publish their results in Applied Mathematics.
Participants will be provided with accommodation and full board. The total cost of participation is 1050 PLN including the conference fee. This amount may change if prices increase. On Saturday, September 12, a formal dinner with dancing is planned. On Sunday, September 13, excursions are anticipated. The organizers have reserved a certain number of tickets for Kasprowy Wierch.
Conference materials will be provided to participants at the "Siwarna." Please send your conference registration using the attached form
(PDF File MeX File Text File) or via the WWW at the registration form.
Please also make the full payment or a deposit of 400 PLN to the account of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences
by July 15, 2009. The paid amount is non-refundable. The remaining amount will be paid by participants upon arrival at the conference.
Those planning to attend the conference are requested to send their registrations and payments as soon as possible due to the limited number of places.
Information for speakers and authors of reports
Speakers and participants who intend to give a lecture or report, or present it at the poster session, are requested to provide a one-page abstract suitable for direct duplication, with margins of 2.5 cm on all sides. In the upper left corner, please include the author's name(s) with titles and the name of the institution.
Speakers will have access to blackboards, slide projectors, and multimedia projectors.
Abstracts of lectures and reports, as well as problems for the session Who Knows How to Solve This?, should be sent to the address listed in the form or (in TeX files) by email to email no later than July 15, 2009.
