We are pleased to invite you to the ceremony of awarding the Stefan Banach Medal to Professor Sławomir Kołodziej, which will be held at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences on November 6th,  2025, at 12.00  in room 321 (3rd floor) at Śniadeckich 8 in Warsaw. The medal will be presented by the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Marek Konarzewski.
The Medal, established in 1992 on Stefan Banach’s 100th birth anniversary, is awarded by the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The laureates are individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the mathematical sciences.

Sławomir Kołodziej is a full professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University and an active member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. His field of expertise is partial differential equations in the theory of several complex variables. The works of Sławomir Kołodziej, published in leading journals, have been distinguished with prestigious awards. In 2014, he received the prestigious Stefan Bergman Prize, awarded by the American Mathematical Society for his “fundamental contributions to the theory of the complex Monge–Ampère equation and pluripotential theory, in particular for necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence, stability, and precise estimates of bounded solutions.” In 2025, Sławomir Kołodziej and his student Sławomir Dinew received the Frontiers of Science Award for their paper Liouville and Calabi–Yau type theorems for complex Hessian equations, published in 2017 in the American Journal of Mathematics. This award is given to about one hundred papers in mathematics, physics, and computer science published within the past ten years that have had a significant impact on their fields. The laureates present their award-winning results at the International Congress of Basic Sciences, which in 2025 took place in Beijing.

Honoring Prof. Sławomir Kołodziej with the Stefan Banach Medal highlights his role as a world-class researcher in the theory of several complex variables and as the creator of subtle and refined results in the exceptionally challenging field of mathematical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations, closely connected with the geometry of complex manifolds.

Schedule of the award ceremony:

12.00 – Award ceremony and  Laureate's lecture in room 321.

13.15 – Refreshments in room 409.

Title of the lecture: Complex Monge-Ampère equations and their applications

Abstract:  We first survey the existence and regularity results for the complex Monge-Ampère equation and then present their applications, including the recent ones, in complex geometry.
