Welcome to the Banach Center!

The Banach Center is an integral part of the Institute of Mathematics at the Polish Academy of Sciences (IM PAS). It serves as an open hub for mathematicians from around the globe and provides a platform for organizing a variety of scientific events. The Center operates under the scientific supervision of Adam Skalski, the Deputy Director of IM PAS.

The Banach Center is proud to be a member of ERCOM (European Research Centres on Mathematics), a committee under the EMS (European Mathematical Society) comprising Directors of 35 leading European Mathematical Research Centres. ERCOM aims to create a forum for communication and information exchange among its members and the EMS, foster collaboration and coordination, promote advanced research training at a European level, enhance the visibility of the EMS, and cultivate connections with similar research institutions within and beyond Europe.

Additionally, the Banach Center is a member of the International Mathematical Sciences Institutes (IMSI) consortium, further solidifying its role in the global mathematical community.

The Banach Center offers the following key activities:

  1. Conferences: Typically lasting from one week to one month, these events bring together a minimum of 25 participants.
  2. Workshops: Spanning one to two weeks, workshops host smaller groups of 10 to 25 participants.
  3. Research Groups: Smaller, focused groups consisting of 2 to 10 researchers.
  4. Banach Center Colloquia: High-level lectures delivered by leading experts in collaboration with the Polish Mathematical Society.
  5. Publications: The Center produces the Banach Center Publications, a distinguished series of proceedings.

Events and activities occur either at the Banach Center in Warsaw or the Mathematical Conference Center in Będlewo, near Poznań.

The ERCOM member institutes believe that diversity is essential to delivering excellence across the mathematical sciences and their applications.
The ERCOM institutes welcome participants from all backgrounds and actively promote the participation of historically underrepresented groups such as women in their programmes.
The ERCOM institutes are committed to ensuring that there is a supportive and inclusive environment to enable all participants to make the most of the opportunities our programmes create.
