The IMPAN Center for Mathematical Applications was established on November 28, 2003. The goal of the Center is to consolidate the efforts of the mathematical community in promoting the applications of mathematics. The Scientific Council of the Center for Applications consists of 22 specialists from various applied branches of mathematics and related fields.

The head of the Center for Mathematical Applications is Prof. Ł. Stettner, with Dr. hab. Tomasz Cieślak and R. Rudnicki serving as his deputies.

The Center for Applications encompasses research groups working in the following fields:

  • financial mathematics,

  • biomathematics,

  • mathematical physics,

  • cryptology,

  • numerical analysis,

  • statistics.

The Center organizes regular seminars dedicated to various branches of applied mathematics as well as specialized seminars focused on specific application areas. The Center also prepares the National Conference on Mathematical Applications in Zakopane. Additionally, the Center is responsible for overseeing the editorial process of Applicationes Mathematicae, a quarterly journal that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2003 (the journal was founded by Hugo Steinhaus).
